ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Making a Good Poem Better
How can you improve your poems? Using in-class exercises, discussion and analysis, we’ll see how form, rhythm and imagery bring poems to life. We’ll look at model poems by established poets to see how they achieve their effects, and there’ll be writing prompts so you can try similar techniques. We’ll also look closely at the business of re-writing and editing. What makes a well judged line break? When is a poem saying too much or too little? How do some poems achieve that mysterious tingle factor?
Workshoppers are asked to bring along a poem from their bottom drawer, one they’re not happy with but can’t abandon.
PRACTICAL INFO The workshop day is split into two parts: 10.00 – 12.00 and 13.00-15.00 Teas and coffees are provided, but workshoppers will need to buy their own lunch in Liskeard. Paper and pens are provided, but workshoppers may need to wish to bring their own materials, eg notebooks.
