Poetry Can South West Poetry Award

Poetry Can is delighted to present the South West Poetry Awards to record and celebrate the most significant contributions to poetry and poetry development in the South West of England.

The Awards, made from beautiful Bristol Blue Glass will be awarded annually and will take account of the many ways poetry is practiced and enjoyed, on the page, on the stage and in the community.

There are six South West Poetry Awards:

  1. The Poetry Publication Award
  2. The Poetry Work With Children and Young People Award
  3. The Contribution to Poetry Development Award
  4. The Individual Poet Award
  5. The Individual Performance Poet Award
  6. The Special Recognition Award

The first five of the six awards will go to the person, group or organisation that have, in the judges’ opinion, made the most significant impact or contribution to poetry and poetry development in the South West of England between (for the first year of the South West Poetry Awards ) 1 April 2012 and 31 March 2013.

The Special Recognition Award will be awarded to the individual who has, in the judges’ opinion, made a distinguished contribution to poetry and poetry development over at least twenty years.

Deadline for nominations is April 28th 2013

The first winners will be announced in September 2013 and the Awards will be presented at Bristol Poetry Festival 2013.

The South West Poetry Awards are administered by Poetry Can. Nominations can be made by anyone who is resident or working in the South West of England, and the winner will be decided by three judges, appointed by Poetry Can.

Poetry Can director Colin Brown said “It’s wonderful to launch these awards, I believe they will make an impact in raising awareness of the range and vitality of the ways in which poetry is made and enjoyed by people in the South West each and every day … “
